Boys battle through wind at Glenbard South Open. Niko Shavers sets 100m record

Niko Shavers took advantage of the windy conditions and broke the school record in the 100 meter dash, runnign 11.94 FAT.  Niko now holds school records in the 55m dash indoors and 100 meter dash outdoors and is close to the 200 meter dash time.  

The distance squad battled through 20-30 mile an hour winds that heavily disrupted the Jones festival of two miles.  Despite the torrid winds 5 athletes broke the vaulted 10 minute barrier as the Jones boys took the first 3 varsity spots and 6 of the top 7.  Senior Luke O'Connor won the race in a person best 9:31.87, narrowly edging by Jamison Dale in second with a 9:32.37 despite leading much of the race in the wind.  Sophomore Kyle Maloney ran a 7 second pr despite the conditions and finished 3rd in 9:40.67.  Kirby Lawson and Peter Schaible also broke the 9:50 barrier.  The Eagles also saw big prs from sophomores Mark Protsiv (10:08), Will Sarchet (10:24) and Daryl Cordova (10:28, frosh soph heat winner).

Jamison Dale came back to win the 1600m run in 4:23.  Enrique Sanchez ran a big 9 second PR despite the conditions, finishing in 5:09.  Anthony Solis and Daryl Cordova took 2nd and 3rd in the frosh soph 1600m while Luke O'Connor doubled back for 4th in the varsity division
