Boys set CPL Meet Record at Varsity Championships

Saturday, May 4 2013 - Chicago Public League Varsity Championships - Jamison Dale

A very successful day for the varsity Eagles track team was highlighted by a breakout school and Chicago Public League meet record in the boys 4x800.  Ben Boswell got the relay started handing off right with the leaders with a 1:59 split, Kyle Maloney held his own and handed off the baton neck and neck with Lane Tech in a 2:00 split and Markiyan Protsiv gained a lead the Eagle quartet would not relinquish running a 1:59 split.  With senior Jamison Dale receiving the baton in the lead at a time of 6:00 there was no doubt the CPL record of 8:02 and school record of 8:06 were about to be smashed.  Jamison ran the first 400 split in 55 seconds and followed it up with a 58 second lap to close in an incredible 1:54.6.  The Eagles's time of 7:54.80 on a 440 yards track converts to 7:52.05 for the true 4x800 meter distance which is currently 2nd in the state of Illinois and 20th in the nation.

Julia Heller had a strong day on the girls side taking 3rd in the 3200 (12:02 for a full 2 miles) and 4th in the 1600 (4:41 for a full one mile).  Daisy Mora ran a big personal best to take 7th in the girls 1600.  The girls relay of Gabriela Gonzalez, Yolanda Juarez, Julia Muller and Julia Lovelace ran strong to finish 5th.

Kirby Lawson and Peter Schaible placed 2nd and 3rd in the boys 3200 while Tony Gonzalez and Kyle Maloney placed 4th and 6th in the 800m run.  Seniors Jamison Dale and Luke O'Connor dominated the 1600 meter run with a big move on the 2nd lap to place 1st and 2nd in 4:20 and 4:22 for the full mile, 8 seconds ahead of 3rd place.
