Eagles Finish Regular Season at Jimmy Daniels, Nike Northside/Southside Challenge

Saturday, October 12 2013 - Nike Northside-Southside Challenge - Daryl Cordova

The regular season came to a close with the Eagles split between two different meets over the weekend.  In Olympia Fields, Ill. At the Jimmy Daniels Invite, hosted by Rich Central High School, many younger runners were given the opportunity to run varsity with many of the top varsity athletes resting.  The "Baby Eagles" delivered with a 2nd place finish on the boys side and a third place finish on the girls side.  Daryl Cordova and Nico Moreno led the boys team with sixth and seventh place finishes respectively, while Jen Geary and Emma Wilson paced the girls.  Despite the curvy course and windy conditions, several harriers set "PR's" including Daryl Cordova (16:38), Cole Hamilton (17:58), Josh Gerenraich (18:25) and Joey Bailey (19:16).  Carlos Gonzalez, Thomas Lihosit, Kalvin Lee and Eric Wong also turned in their best ever performances.

On Sunday morning, fourteen Jones Harriers had the opportunity to run the last 2.62 miles of the Chicago Marathon course at the fifth annual Nike Northside/Southside Challenge.  Senior Tony Gonazalez led the boys with a 13:30 finish, good for 21st place, while Daisy Mora led the way for the Lady Eagles in 44th place with a 17:47 clocking.

The post-season begins with the Chicago Public League Championships this Saturday, October 19, to be held at Washington Park.  All healthy runners will have the opportunity to compete at the Freshmen, Sophomore, Varsity or JV levels.  Sophomores and Varsity will run three miles while Freshmen and JV will run two.
