Racing as a full squad for the first time this season, the Eagles continued their attack on the school's all-time lists for the second weekend in a row at the Niles West City Meet II in Skokie, Ill. on Friday evening.
Competing for the first time under new sprints coach Nick Diedrich, a collection of Jones athletes made their debuts in the sprint events in fine fashion, including a handful of all-time best performances.
Breaking the indoor school record in the long jump by over six inches, junior Ahmani Davis bested the previous mark with a leap of 17'5" in his first ever attempt at the event.
Freshman Armani Kongmanivong also brought home the freshman school record in the long jump while adding an additional freshman record in the 50m dash.
The distance squad continued their season from last weekend with a number of personal best and school records as well.
Freshman Will Moran started the evening off in impressive fashion with a freshman school record in the 1,000m run (3:11) before freshman Jeremy Adams broke it again minutes later competing in the varsity heat (3:01). Both now sit one and two respectively on the all-time freshman list
In the varsity division of the same race, Will Sarchet, Peter Schaible and Tony Solis finished second, third and fourth respectively to earn them the same exact spots on the Jones all-time list as well. Sophomores Nikolas Merten and Alex Behle also nabbed the seventh and eighth best times in school history while Adams and junior David Salmi tied for the tenth spot.
The 600m run also saw a plethora of Eagle success with both the all-time and freshman records falling within minutes of each other. Arthur Santoro secured his second freshman record of the young season as he shattered the previous freshman mark by eight seconds for second place (1:38.08), while junior Mark Protsiv won the varsity division with a an all-time record mark of 1:29.2 on the tight 160m track.
Senior Tony Gonzalez also made his 2014 debut in great fashion going under the previous school record as well, racing to a second place finish in both the race and Jones record books (1:30.2). Seniors Gustavo Colunga and Enrique Sanchez recorded personal bests to land in the eighth and ninth spots on the all-time list, while Santoro also snuck in to earn the tenth position.
Jones' success in the 1600m run also continued as most Eagles doubled back in impressive fashion leading to a sweep in the sophomore and varsity divisions. Cole Hamilton won his second straight sophomore mile this year while Schaible and senior Kevin Johnson teamed up to take the top two spots in the varsity division. Johnson also became the eighth Jones runner to dip below the five minute barrier this season (4:45) with a strong 2014 season debut. The freshmen miler duo of Moran and Daniel Garcia-Rico also performed well once again, taking home the second and third spots in the rookie division.
The Eagles will be back in action next Saturday as they travel to Joliet, Ill. for their first ever appearance in the Joliet West Indoor Invitational.
